Computer Backup Storage Media

If you are a responsible computer owner and user, you know that you have to secure your data. This is done in the first place by having firewall and anti-virus and other anti-malware software in place to protect your computer from a virus, worm or other infection that can cause the loss of your information.

These very basic and necessary computer security measures are important, but they should not be the only thing we do to protect our data. Having backup of all files stored on our computers is essential to complete computer security.

No matter what you use your computer for there is data there that you would not want to lose. Whether it is documents for work, files of personal information or photos, you rely on your computer to keep track of everything for you. If something goes wrong with your computer you are sore out of luck.

But you don’t have to be! Backing up your files is the best way to ensure that even if your computer should be hacked or crash or even be destroyed, you still have your data stored safely away. This means that the information has to be stored in a different place. This can be done in a number of different ways.

Computer backup storage can be found in many different forms. Probably the simplest at this point is to store everything on CD-R or DVD-R and store the stacks of discs in a safe place. One of the downsides to this type of computer backup storage is that it is not very well organized and is therefore difficult to restore if something should happen to your computer.

Key or pen drives are another good way you can store your data. These hold a lot of information; they have a great deal of storage and can therefore be a good option. Also, they are very small and easy to restore information from; however, they are more expensive.

And external hard disk provides you with essentially the same type of storage you get on your computer. It is a great option and one that many people use because it is easy to use and retrieve the data. One disadvantage is that it is more sensitive and can be broken easily if dropped.

More people all the time are opting for remote backup on the Internet. This is a great way to have your information accessible wherever you are, as long as you have a connection to the Internet. This is a good option, but one thing you have to look into is the level of security. You want to be sure your files are safe from being viewed or stolen by someone else.

Computer backup storage solutions are many. Research the options and determine which is best for you. Then get saving your files and remember to do it regularly.
